Ecology of Spirit
July 14 - August 9th | Opening Reception: July 18th, 5-8pm
Oakland-based artists Rosesharon Oates and Nedra Theriot Williams unite for a two-person exhibition that treats art-making as ritual and celebration. Across pyrography, collage, and mixed media, these culture bearers explore what it means to find balance — through joy, through nature, and through one another.
In their own words: "We understand our art practice to be another form of ritual… embodying the forces of nature and our journey as culture bearers and women of the Diaspora."
Rosesharon Oates — artist, healer, and holder — was born in New Orleans and is rooted in Oakland. She is best known for her pyrography: burning images into wood, then adding acrylic and natural washes to draw out the grain's beauty and movement.
Nedra Theriot Williams is a mixed media artist and owner of Conjure Collage Art and Design Studio in Oakland. Drawing from African diaspora culture and the experiences of Black American women, her work layers vivid hues, varied papers, and textiles with stencils and photographic cutouts.
